Words of wisdom?

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Well, Momma and Garden Flower came home a couple days ago and it has been an interesting transition to say the least.  Garden is sleeping decently well, she gives us a 4 hour stretch every night before she decides to keep us up the rest of the night.  This morning she decided to cry for about 2 and a half hours which was a little rough, but we’re recovering.  All in all everything seems to be going well.

I hope we there will be quite a few experienced mothers that are reading this and for those of you who know I have a question.  What are the tips and tricks that pulled you through the roughest times of motherhood.  Momma Bear is doing great, but I can tell that things are getting hard on her and I know there’s lots of good advice out there (along with lots of bad advice) on how to make your life easier as a mom.

So please, share with us your tips on how to stop a baby from crying, how to get comfortable after delivery, how to nurse the best, any advice you have that has worked for you we’re willing to try at least once.

You can post your advice in the comments field of this post.  For those of you that may have trouble figuring out how to do that, simply click on the title of this post, then at the bottom of the page there should be a form that you can send us all those great suggestions.  if you have any trouble leaving the comment, you can send me an e-mail to daddywachs+babywachs.com (only replace the + with @) and I can post them here for you.

Thanks in advance,

Papa Bear

Hospital Visit #4

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

It finally happened. After a full week of waiting here we are sitting in the hospital and Momma Bear is in active labor. After a couple walks and a little coaxing from the medical professionals, she was finally progressing and admitted to the ospital. So here we sit waiting for the baby to come

Hospital Visit #3

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

So after our visit yesterday the medical professional told us that if Momma Bear feels anymore pressure in her pelvic area to come in and be checked again.  All day she was feeling the pressure and so this evening we went to the hospital to be hooked up to all the monitors and see what was happening.

When we got there Momma Bear was still at about the same place she was yesterday, 4.5 cm and 80% effaced.  She got hooked up with all the monitors and they showed that there were contractions coming about every 2-4 minutes and seemed to be in active labor.

After a couple hours on the monitors, the nurse came in and checked again to see if there was any progression.  No such luck.  Still at 4.5 and 80%.  So the health professional ordered a few tests and shot gave Momma Bear a shot of morphine to either push her into active labor or quell the false labor.

After the shot the contractions calmed down as did Momma Bear.  After another hour or so we were sent home and Momma Bear was told to stay in bed from here on out and come in if she feels any contractions.

So now we wait.

Whoo-hoo! Almost there!

We went in for a normal check-up today with the midwives and by the time we left we were told that Garden Flower could come anytime in the next day or two.  Momma Bear is dilated to 4.5 cm and effaced 80%.  It shouldn’t be much longer now…

Hospital Visit #2

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Friday morning Papa Bear woke up disoriented and shivering uncontrollably.  Due to Momma Bear’s quick thinking Papa Bear got in a warm bath and warmed up a little bit, and eventually spiked a fever.  Long story short, chills, fever, chills, fever, hospital, doctor, bronchitis.  Sent home with some antibiotics and told to drink lots of fluids.  It’s not a visit for Garden Flower, but the whole family still got to spend the night in the ER.

Hospital Visit #1

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

So all day yesterday and even into the evening before Momma Bear’s blood pressure was unusually high. It was well above where it usually is, and into the range of where the medical professionals had advised us to alert them. So Momma Bear sat at home relaxing all day and trying to get her blood pressure under control. It was still high when Papa Bear got home around 6:00.

We ate a little dinner and decided to make our way to the hospital to make sure Momma and Garden were safe and healthy. We first went and picked up Momma Bear’s prescription then made our way to the hospital. When we arrived the nurses took us promptly into a room. Momma Bear got to wear that fashionable hospital gown and was fitted with several monitors to keep an eye on her and the baby.

After 2 hours of lying in bed, and about 4 ounces of pee in a cup for some lab work, the nurses said everything was OK and we could go home. The whole time in the hospital Momma bear’s blood pressure was well within normal range. She and baby looked great.

Though we were a little embarrassed that everything was fine, it was good to know that Momma Bear and Garden Flower are doing well.
