It has been a ridiculous past couple of weeks. Here is a slice of what has been going on with the Wachs family in Utah:
We debated about moving back to Michigan… and then decided we were going to move… and just as we were finalizing plans something didn’t feel quite right. We talked about it at length- again -and finally decided that we couldn’t make the move if we didn’t have a job to go back to. Ugh. Talk about frustrating! We really love Utah: my husband loves his job, we love the mountains, I absolutely LOVED my midwife, and our cutie baby seems to enjoy herself out here, too. BUT we wanted to be back near family so badly so she would know her extended family. Needless to say, with saddened spirits, we are going to stay here. It’s bittersweet, but frequent visits back to our families will have to do for now. And of course- you are all always welcomed to come visit us here. (We are excellent tour guides, and our little girl loves to be out and about when we have visitors.)
Let’s see, what else has happened? Oh yes… IMMUNIZATIONS!
She had her first round of shots on Monday- 4 different shots- 7 vaccines total. She did not react well to them. She slept for hours and hours on end, only ate 5-6 oz during the whole day (1/2 oz. to 1 oz at a time) for the first 2 or 3 days, ran a fever of 101.4, screamed randomly, wouldn’t let me put her down or she would panic, developed some wheezing during the first couple of days and would take big gulps of breath. Oh yes, and the scariest thing of all is that she would start to shake randomly- awake or asleep. She’s never done that before. It has been a nightmare. We have all slept in the same room since Monday because her daddy was worried about her… and so was I. The doctor told us to come in on Monday if she still seems “off.” After this experience we have decided that we are not going to do any more immunizations with our little girl. Her poor body has been through such trauma. She seems to be feeling a little better, but she still isn’t our same happy little laughing peanut yet.
On a happier note- we found this really great way to walk with her while we are out and about: it’s a 6-yard piece of cloth that we tie into this really great wrap around our bodies. She loves it, and so do we. It’s convenient, snuggly and so much nicer when she wants to be held and we are out with this huge stroller but carrying her in our arms. We’re going to post some photos of us donning this latest discovery of ours. She reminds me of a koala bear clinging to its mother when she is nestled in her wrap- so cuddly.
Other than that things here are pretty quiet. We are homesick- but trying to hold our friendships out here as if they were as close as family.
I’m sure we will write more soon. We will definitely keep up with this better than we have been.
*Sending our love*
